Potting Small Plants or Herbs D1-D2

To engage participants in a meaningful, hands‑on activity that stimulates the senses, encourages fine motor skills, and fosters a sense of accomplishment. Working with plants also connects participants to nature and can spark pleasant memories.

Materials

  • Small pots or containers
  • Potting soil (pre‑measured in a scoop or bowl)
  • Herbs or house plants (starter plants or cuttings)
  • A spoon or small trowel
  • Watering can or spray bottle
  • Towels or table covering for easy cleanup
  1. Prepare the workspace
    • Cover the table with a towel or mat.
    • Place all materials neatly in front of the participant.
  2. Demonstrate slowly and silently
    • Scoop soil into the pot with calm, deliberate movements.
    • Place the herb or plant gently into the soil. 
    • Add more soil around the roots, pressing lightly to secure.
  3. Water the plant - Show how to pour or spray a small amount of water.
